klassegrafikdesignkassel Edited•187w*Results from the seminar “Humor and Despair — counter-narratives to the Hero”, led by @rebeccastephany A new semester has begun – time to celebrate the Rundgang / Open Days 2022 at Kunsthochschule Kassel, which concluded our academic year back in July. This being the first Rundgang since 2019, we decided to try to exhibit everything* that had been produced or developed in the last year, showcasing the results of 12 seminars, collective and individual projects, applied work and workshops with and by 40+ students. And suddenly, the Middle Ages appeared as a motto for our collective exhibition:A Tavern For DesignDarkness and dirt on the one hand, connectedness with nature and splendidly decorated houses on the other - these ideas are often associated with the Middle Ages.As a highly visually charged age, the Middle Ages are still very present today - in the form of medieval markets, LARPS and pop culture. What is interesting about these tendencies for us is that the medieval period is less portrayed authentically, in the sense of historically precise, but rather cited and evoked intuitively and often romanticized.Aspects of the Middle Ages are also taken up again and again in the fantasy field, and we, too, would like to appeal to the imagination, after all! So when the term "Middle Ages" was thrown into the room, we asked ourselves "Why not?" and drew inspiration from it.After all, medievalism as a motto allows us to break with and question the usual clean and tidy exhibition aesthetics that are otherwise often used in graphic design. For this we use many natural, partly untreated, materials from our surroundings, such as wood and branches from the floodplain, straw bales from a local farmer or used jute sacks. These materials frame, decorate, and interact with the works of the Graphic Design/Editorial Design class.🔮 Exhibition design: @michelle.monja @becccina @sstarzer @henningroye @fakechess 👀Photography: @canwagener @henningroye
